Prana is energy, its our eternal life force. Prana means breath, respiration, life, vitality, wind, energy and strength. The breath and the mind are intimately connected and the activity of one affects the other. Pranayama is the practice of rhythmic breath control.
Mother and baby each have their own energy body, interdependent during pregnancy, yet separate. There are 2 types of Prana and each perform a distinct function. One cannot be without the other. Prana- upward direction and directs the circulation and respiratory systems- bringing oxygen to the baby. Thus sustains pregnancy! Apana- downward direction- ejects what is not needed- governs exhalation and elimination of waste. Throughout our Durga Baby prenatal sessions we work on concentrating and visualizing the breath downward into the pelvis, helping in childbirth!
